Cambridge Global Perspectives at AbM School
In 2016 ABM school received invitation from Cambridge to pilot the Global Perspectives syllabus for primary and lower secondary. AbM School was the only Cambridge school in the Sultanate of Oman and one of the first 19 Cambridge international schools worldwide to participate in the two-year pilot programme before it was made available to all Cambridge schools from 2018. As of 2023, Cambridge Global Perspectives is offered to students from grade 3 to 10.
What precisely is Cambridge Global Perspectives?
Cambridge Global Perspectives is a unique, transformative program that assists students at all levels of schooling in developing outstanding transferable skills such as critical thinking, research, and collaboration. It provides students aged 5 to 19 with the opportunity to develop the skills required for success in school, university, and future careers.
The program takes advantage of how today’s students prefer to learn, such as group projects, discussions, and collaboration with students from all over the world. The emphasis is on developing students’ critical thinking skills in a variety of global issues where there is always more than one point of view.
This curriculum fosters and develops research, analysis, evaluation, reflection, collaboration, and communication skills. It strengthens the connections between all of Cambridge subjects, including English, mathematics, and science. This challenges learners to explore and make judgements on the global issues that really matter to them.
Assessment
In the primary, learners work in small teams to produce a Team project and personal reflection. In the lower secondary, learners work independently with some supervision by an experienced educator to produce an individual report. For grade 9 and 10 learners work in producing Team projects, individual reports and prepare for written assessment.
